Coliseum parking rates rise for 1st time in 5 years
The cost of parking at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum will increase in September for the first time since 2013.
The new prices will be 5 currently. Costs to park in the venue’s preferred lot will go from 10 and the cost for buses, RVs and other large vehicles will increase from 18.
Prior to the Coliseum’s last parking increase in 2013, the price for general parking was $4.
This round of increases is necessary, Brown said, because of rising utility costs. The Coliseum’s natural gas bill increased by 16,750 this year, Brown added. The Coliseum’s electric bill went up by $139,300 this year as well, Brown said.
A planned 3 percent cost of living adjustment for county employees is expected to cost the Coliseum $105,300 next year as well, Brown said.
The Coliseum made just over 300,000 in additional costs. The fee increase is expected to generate about $310,000.
“We’re very cautious when it comes to cost increases when it comes to rental fees, food and beverage costs or parking fees,” Brown said. “We monitor what other markets, especially markets in the EHCL (hockey league). We try hard to keep reasonable parking fees in place.”
