MEREDITH, N.H. — The state has denied a pardon hearing request from a New Hampshire man who strangled his fiancée and stabbed her in the heart 35 years ago. WMUR-TV reports that the Executive Council voted 3-2 Thursday not to hold a public hearing to re-examine the case of Gary Place, who was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison for the death of Wanda Olsen in 1983.


GROOMER-DOG DEATH: Police say a Hampton pet groomer faces animal cruelty charges after a dog died in her care.

MOTORCYCLE-RESTAURANT: Police say a man was killed when he lost control of his motorcycle while doing a “wheelie” and crashed into a closed restaurant in Newington, New Hampshire.

BEAR CUBS KILLED: New Hampshire authorities say three bear cubs have been shot and killed after they and their mother got into a beehive in Tamworth. Fish and Game officials say a man who had been having problems with the bears going after his chickens and beehives for several days killed the cubs on Wednesday.

STATE SENATOR-DOMESTIC VIOLENCE: A new trial date has been set for a for a New Hampshire state senator facing domestic violence charges.

TODDLER-GAME THEFT: A Massachusetts teacher has been charged with putting his toddler into a game machine at a New Hampshire shopping mall and using her to steal prizes.
