Farmers: Harvest looking good in central Illinois

PEORIA, Ill. (AP) — Farmers in the Peoria area are reporting a good harvest.

Tazewell County Farm Bureau manager Doug Godke says “the corn has been better than what we’ve been expecting.”

Richard Carroll farms soybeans in Brimfield. He says the crop is better than last year and “things look pretty good so far.” The Journal Star reports (http://bit.ly/17lhDyt) that the Illinois Department of Agriculture says about 13 percent of the state’s corn crop has been harvested.

Peoria County Farm Bureau manager Patrick Kirchhofer says early rains helped crops that didn’t receive much water in July and August. He says the harvest in central Illinois should be in full gear this week.
