AMSTERDAM, Netherlands (AP) _ A slow-moving passenger train collided with a freight train carrying sand, slightly injuring seven people.

The trains crashed Monday night at an intersection near the central station in Zwolle, about 50 miles northeast of Amsterdam, at a speed of 12 miles per hour, police said.

The engineer suffered light shock and the conductor was treated for a few ``scratches,'' authorities said. No serious injuries were reported.

The collision paralyzed rail service for hours. Railway spokesman Wim Rabelin said it would take ``a lot of hard work to clear the rail track'' after the cargo wagon tipped its load.

The cause of the collision was not immediately known.
