ARCADIA, Calif. (AP) _ War Chant beat Road To Slew by a length Saturday to win the $285,750 Oak Tree Breeders' Cup Mile Stakes at Santa Anita.

War Chant, who hadn't raced since finishing ninth in the Kentucky Derby on May 6, covered one mile in 1:33 2-5. Ridden by Gary Stevens, the 3-year-old increased his record to 4-1-0 in six starts and paid $8, $6.20, and $4.40. War Chant's victory in the Grade II race was worth $172,050, lifting his career earnings to $544,250.

Road To Slew, ridden by Laffit Pincay Jr., paid $13.60 and $6.80, while Sharan returned $4.60 to show.

In the $196,498 Oak Tree Ancient Title Breeders' Cup Handicap, heavily favored Kona Gold was the best of a three-horse field. The 6-year-old horse ran the six furlongs in 1:08, and returned $2.60 and $2.10. Regal Thunder paid $2.10 to place.

Only three horses ran in the Grade II race because trainer Bob Baffert scratched his 3-year-old filly Chilukki.

Kona Gold won for the eighth time in 16 starts. The horse earned $123,060, boosting his career total to $1,156,944.
