BARBOURSVILLE — Commuter traffic in Cabell County was slow Friday morning after an early morning charter bus fire shut down Interstate 64 in Barboursville.

According to Cabell County 911, the bus caught fire along the shoulder of the interstate near mile marker 17, near the Merritts Creek exit, at about 7 a.m. Friday. The westbound lanes were closed to allow firefighters to battle the blaze, but reopened after a couple hours.

The bus was transporting military personnel, and equipment had caught fire in the back of the bus.

No injuries were reported as a result, and a new bus was brought in for the military members to continue their trip.
