Residents can pick up party supplies this week for National Night Out

September 21, 2018

The 35th anniversary of the National Night Out, an event focused on crime prevention by encouraging neighbors to know each other as well as the law enforcement agencies in their communities, is quickly approaching.

Neighborhoods, which could be groups of 20 or 200 homes, can help build community-police partnerships by gathering with their neighbors outside for an official party.

While parties are to be held Sunday, Oct. 14, Marian Leck, law enforcement services director at The Woodlands Township, said party organizers should start preparing soon.

“(Your party) can be as simple or as complicated as you want it to be,” Leck said.

If parties register in advance, they can receive supplies such as balloons, yard signs, sidewalk chalk and invitations during the township’s Packet Pick-Up day, while supplies last. To sweeten the deal a little, organizers can also enter giveaways for their party to win items like a grill or jewelry.

Packet Pick-Up day is Thursday, Sept. 27 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at The Woodlands Township town hall at 2801 Technology Forest Blvd.

Residents hosting parties can also arrange for a public safety official — a sheriff’s deputy, constable or firefighters — to visit their party.

Leck said party organizers who want to receive supplies or arrange a public safety official visit need to register no later than Oct. 3.

Those interested in registering their parties can call the Township at 281-210-3800 or go online to www.thewoodlandstownship-tx.gov/nationalnightout.
