New England College of Business Addresses Employer Demand for Advanced Skills and Student Need for Affordability and Acceleration
BOSTON, March 29, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- New England College of Business (NECB) announces significant advancements in the college’s ability to provide affordable, high-quality degrees with new models addressing the prior learning of working adults, responding to the growing demand for online Associates, Bachelors, Masters and Doctorates.
With the expansion of its education opportunities with 11 new degree programs – nearly doubling its number of offerings, NECB continues to provide award-winning, flexible, and affordable education opportunities for in-demand careers.
“NECB has 110 years of developing programs that directly address evolving workforce needs,” said Dr. Debra Leahy, Provost, NECB. “Our 11 new programs continue that tradition as they are carefully tailored to working professionals who are balancing careers, family life, and their many other responsibilities. Our students will be able to apply what they learn to their careers in real-time, and, equally important, remain equipped with robust skills that will stay with alumni throughout the lifespan of their careers.”
All 11 new degree programs were chosen based on employer and student demand. Designed with input from industry subject matter experts (SMEs) in conjunction with NECB’s faculty, all of whom have extensive experience in their fields. The 11 new programs include:
-- Bachelor of Science in Quality Systems Management -- Bachelor of Science in Quality Systems Management – Degree Completion program -- Master of Science in Quality Systems Management -- Associate of Science in Healthcare Administration -- Bachelor of Science in Healthcare Administration -- Associate of Science in Accounting -- Bachelor of Science in Accounting -- Master of Science in Risk Management and Insurance -- Doctor of Business Administration Quality Systems Management -- Master of Science in Accounting (Fall 2019) -- Bachelor of Science in Social Entrepreneurship (Fall 2019)
In addition to the 11 new programs, NECB instituted Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) for an increasing number of Master’s degrees offered by the College, most notably toward the MBA. Given 96% of NECB students are employed and an average age of 35, NECB offers more value by awarding credit for experience they have gained through employment, reducing the total number of credits required to take to earn their MBA. Given the five-week term length and ten-course requirement, this results in a student having the opportunity to earn their degree faster and for less cost.
“NECB’s programs were designed to have practical takeaways,” said Evan A. Lemoine, MBA, CPA, CFE, CGMA, PRP. Evan serves as Supervisor, Operational Audit at Aix Group, is President of the Rhode Island Chapter of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE) and is an adjunct faculty member at NECB.
Programs additionally prepare students to attain industry certifications. Students can prepare for their Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and Certified Management Accountant (CMA) credentials in the accounting programs, or credits may be available for students who have already earned industry recognized certifications. Students can also be on track to earn their Six Sigma Certification, Project Management Professional (PMP), and Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) credentials with NECB’s quality systems management programs, a set of re-envisioned degree offerings adapted from the National Graduate School model when it was acquired by NECB earlier this year.
“When creating the new degree programs with NECB, it was imperative that we blended the textbook knowledge one would expect to see in an accounting program with the vital industry-related knowledge to empower students to employ their skills on day one,” he continued. “While accounting is often viewed as a rigid profession with too many rules and standards, NECB’s programs were designed to offer readily applicable skills along with guidance to students looking to pursue an accounting certification after graduation.”
NECB’s new degrees complement the College’s existing offerings, including 13 graduate and undergraduate degrees with concentration options plus 6 certificate programs. Learn more about NECB at www.necb.edu.
