Beatrice could see 3-6 inches of snow this weekend as weather system approaches
Beatrice could see blizzard-like conditions this weekend as a winter weather system approaches the region.
The National Weather Service in Omaha issued a winter storm watch for Beatrice and much of eastern Nebraska and southwest Iowa for late Saturday night and early Sunday.
Forecasters say the storm could bring 3-6 inches of snow with wind gusts around 40 mph or higher.
Rain is expected late Saturday night into early Sunday morning, transitioning over to snow Sunday, according to weather service forecasts.
The weather service advises holiday travelers to plan on slippery road conditions and reduced visibility due to blowing snow.
Ice could also form on roads as temperatures are expected to remain below freezing Saturday night, with a high of 30 on Sunday. Temperatures will continue to plunge, with a low of 16 expected, Sunday night.
“A winter storm watch means there is a potential for significant snow, sleet or ice accumulations that may impact travel,” the National Weather Service said. ”...Holiday travelers should consider altering travel plans if possible.”
Other areas under the watch include Wilber, Fairbury, Tecumseh, Pawnee City, Sterling and Table Rock.
