Prescribed burn in Santa Fe watershed set for Tuesday
Santa Fe National Forest officials said they plan to execute a previously announced prescribed burn near Nichols Reservoir on Tuesday.
Up to 500 acres, including 50 acres of piles, will be treated with hand and aerial ignition, officials said. The burn is designed to remove forest fuels and reduce the risk of high-intensity fire near the city’s municipal watershed.
Smoke likely will be visible from Santa Fe and neighboring communities, including Tesuque, Pecos Canyon, Eldorado and the I-25 corridor, officials said.
