76-year-old man shoots woman in Cleveland, police say

CLEVELAND, Ohio — A 76-year-old man shot and wounded a 23-year-old woman during an argument and shoving match, police say.

The man was arrested and admitted shooting the woman, according to police reports. Formal charges have not been filed as of 3 p.m. Tuesday.

The shooting happened about 11 p.m. Monday at a home in the 600 block of Lakeview Avenue in the city’s Glenville neighborhood.

The man was at his 43-year-old girlfriend’s home when the woman’s two daughters fought over a cellphone charging cord, according to police reports.

The man tried to step in and break up the fight, police reports say.

The 23-year-old woman told police the man shoved her and that she shoved him back. She said the man then said: “I got something for you,” pulled out a gun and shot her in the left leg.

The man left and walked down the street. Police found him nearby with a revolver in his backpack that had four bullets and one fired bullet casing left in the chambers, according to police reports.

The man told police that the woman shoved him first and that she threatened to call friends who would attack the man, police reports say. The man admitted to shooting the woman.

The 43-year-old woman told police she witnessed the fight but not the gunshot, police reports say.
