Diving into the Ocean in Your Underwear? Pats Fans Will Do Anything
FOXBORO -- Among the crowd Sunday at Gillette Stadium were more than a few Super Bowl superstitions. Here are a few that fans shared:
Jenny Cugini’s favorite player is Tedy Bruschi. That said, her Bruschi jersey has to stay in the closet all season. “I have a Bruschi shirt and I never wear it because every day I wear it they lose. I love him so much but during the season I won’t wear it at all. It just hangs in the closet.”
Lauren Clark can’t continue to watch the game if the Patriots are losing. “If they are losing I will go to bed because I think I bring them bad luck, and every time I leave the room they win. I have to go to bed or I will jinx them.”
For the Hittle family from Bow, N.H., the family dog has to join in on the action. “Whenever we are screaming at the TV during the game, our border collie will start barking with us,” said Jennifer Hittle.
Rick Gallerani, of Plymouth, is making the same bet he did during the last Rams-Patriots Super Bowl showdown: if the Pats win, he will jump into the ocean in his underwear.
“I told everybody that if we won that game, I was going to dive off the rocks right into the water in my tighty-whities. As soon as Adam (Vinatieri) hit the field goal. ... I was down on the rocks in my underwear. And I’ve made the same bet this year on Facebook.”
