EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) _ Shawn Respert had 19 points to lead seven Michigan State players in double figures as the Spartans handed Cuba the worst defeat of its exhibition tour, 103-65 on Saturday.
Respert, a redshirt freshman guard, was 7-for-12 from the floor, including 3-for-7 from 3-point range. Matt Steigenga added 17 points, while Kris Weshinskey had 14 and Mike Peplowski had 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Cuba was led by Luciano Rivero with 18 points and Andres Gilbert with 14.
Senior point guard Mark Montgomery, taking over the offense for graduated star Steve Smith, had 10 assists in 27 minutes.
The Spartans broke a 15-15 first-half tie with a 39-10 run on their way to a 54-25 halftime lead.
The Cubans, playing their sixth game in six days on a 10-city U.S. college tour, dropped to 0-8 with the worst loss of the trip.
Michigan State will play host to Athletes in Action on Wednesday in its final exhibition game before opening the regular season Nov. 25 against Lamar in the Maui Invitational in Hawaii.
