Fitchburg Man Charged in Hotel Co-worker’s Rape
FITCHBURG -- A 23-year-old employee at Great Wolf Lodge allegedly raped a 17-year-old female colleague at the hotel Tuesday, according to court documents.
Darren Ngabe, of 83 Crestview Lane, allegedly had sex with the victim against her will and inappropriately touched her in his hotel room, court records state. He was charged with rape and indecent assault and battery on a person who is 14 or older.
The victim told police that Ngabe invited her to the room and that she told him she didn’t want to have sex before the alleged assault, documents say. His refusal to stop advances, physical size, and body language intimidated her, the victim told police.
Afterward, the victim fled the hotel room while Ngabe was taking a shower, according to court documents.
When she ran into another employee in the lobby, she told them what happened, according to court records. A manager later contacted the police to report the alleged assault.
Great Wolf Resorts Inc., the lodge’s parent company, is aware of the alleged incident at the hotel and has suspended Ngabe.
“We have a zero tolerance policy when it comes to issues of this nature, and we are assisting local authorities with their investigation,” the company said in a Thursday statement. ”(We) extend our support to the other pack member involved.”
Great Wolf Resorts has nearly 20 locations across the country and in Canada.
Fitchburg’s Great Wolf Lodge features a water park and attractions and activities for children.
During Ngabe’s Wednesday arraignment, his bail was set at $2,500 cash or $25,000 surety. A judge ordered him to have no contact with the victim and stay away from Great Wolf Lodge.
Ngabe was also asked to surrender his passport and not leave Massachusetts. The judge also ordered him to obey all state and federal laws.
His next court date is a pre-trial hearing scheduled for March 12.
