Court Appearances Set for Man Accused of Kidnapping, Sex Assault
A man accused of kidnapping and sexually assaulting a 79-year-old woman in Broomfield was arraigned of charges.
Motions hearings for Donald Lee McMillian, 43, were set during a hearing Thursday for Dec. 14 and Feb. 6, according to the 17th Judicial District Attorney’s Office.
A trial, which is expected to last four days, is scheduled for March 4. McMillian is being held in the Broomfield jail on a $300,000 bond.
Broomfield police said the woman was stabbed and assaulted at a pedestrian underpass at Sheridan Boulevard and Highland Park Drive while walking her dog March 20.
McMillian faces two counts of first-degree kidnapping, a Class 1 felony, sexual assault on an at risk adult, a Class 2 felony, sexual assault while armed with a knife, a Class 2 felony, sexual assault with force, a Class 3 felony, first-degree assault causing serious bodily injury with a knife, a Class 3 felony, and felony menacing, a Class 5 felony.
McMillian does not appear to have any prior criminal history in Colorado, and Broomfield police said he is a resident of South Carolina.
Police responded to the area of Sheridan Boulevard and Highland Park Drive at about 3:30 p.m. March 20 after a person called 911 to report an elderly woman being assaulted on a walking path.
Based on a description of the suspect, police located a man later identified as McMillian on the 900 block of East Midway and took him to custody a short time later.
The alleged victim in the case was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital in Lafayette for her injuries and now is recuperating at home.
