LEESBURG, Va. (AP) _ A single-engine airplane crashed on the driveway of a home about 30 miles northwest of Washington, D.C., killing one man in the plane and injuring his son, state police said Saturday.
Sgt. Everett Currie said the pilot had radioed the Leesburg airport at about 10:50 a.m. and reported engine trouble. The pilot said he would try to land in a field, but he crashed before he could get there, Currie said.
No injuries were reported on the ground, Currie said.
James Scambos, 44, of Ashburn was pronounced dead at Leesburg hospital. His son, whose name and age were not immediately available, was ``conscious and talking″ at a Washington hospital, Currie said. It wasn’t immediately clear if the man or his son was piloting the plane.
