SC teenager faces felony DUI charge after crash kills friend
HONEA PATH, S.C. (AP) — A 17-year-old girl faces a felony charge after a crash killed her friend and injured another in South Carolina’s Greenville County.
South Carolina Highway Patrol says the teenager, of Honea Path, is charged with felony DUI involving death. At a hearing Tuesday, bond was set at $15,000. She also was ordered not to drive and will be required to wear an ankle bracelet that monitors if she has alcohol in her system.
Authorities say the coroner’s office identified the victim as 18-year-old Dayton Gayle Sellers, of Donalds.
News outlets report the crash happened just before 2:30 a.m. Tuesday, about four miles north of Honea Path. Troopers said the teen’s car crossed the center line, ran off the road, overturned and went down an embankment.
Sellers was partially ejected and died.
