TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) _ Leanne Barrette, trying for her third title of the year, advanced Monday from seventh place to take a 27-pin lead over Carol Norman after three rounds of the LPBT Tempe Open.

Barrette, a seven-time career champion, averaged 221 to finish with an 18- game total of 3,987 pins. Norman, trying for her first title since 1987, had 3,960 pins.

Cheryl Daniels, a four-time winner in 1989, averaged 235 for her final six games of qualifying to move up from 19th place to third at 3,953.

Aleta Sill was fourth at 3,943, followed by Wendy Macpherson with 3,927 and rookie Kim Terrell at 3,901.

Defending champion Robin Romeo was eighth with 3,885 pins.
