Georgia beat Romania; sort out World Cup berths
Georgia beat Romania 22-9 in Tbilisi to win the European Nations Cup on Saturday and earn a first matchup with the defending champion All Blacks in the Rugby World Cup next year.
Georgia and Romania already qualified for the World Cup in England, but their last Nations Cup round-robin match decided their pool slots.
The Georgians will line up in their fourth World Cup in Pool C with New Zealand, Argentina, Tonga and Africa’s yet-to-be-determined qualifier. The Lelos and Pumas will meet in a third straight world championship.
Romania, which has played in every World Cup, completes Pool D with France, Ireland, Italy and Canada.
Russia, which finished third and beat Belgium away 34-20, will play off against the United States or Uruguay for a second trip to the World Cup.
