SALEM - Residents of Dracut and Lawrence were hospitalized yesterday after being involved in a major car accident near Exit 1 on I-93 south.

Members of New Hampshire State Police Troop B responded to reports of the crash in Salem at approximately 6:30 p.m. on Memorial Day.

According to State Police Lieutenant Bryan Trask, three cars were racing each other on the road and “driving erratically” before the crash.

Police said a 2006 Acura RSX racing with the other two cars was changing lanes when the driver lost control of the vehicle, skidded into the breakdown lane and hit a guardrail, causing a 21-year-old male occupant of the vehicle from Lawrence to eject from the car. The car then skidded back onto the road and struck a 2012 Toyota Sienna, operated by a 56-year-old female from Dracut and her elderly parents.
