Woman breaks leg to escape incident at hotel

December 18, 2018

A woman who broke her left leg jumping out of a motel window in Española told authorities she was trying to escape from a man she feared would kill her, Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office reports say.

Deputies arrested Donald Salazar, 38, on suspicion of false imprisonment in connection with the Saturday incident at a Motel 6.

The reports say the 37-year-old woman had called her sister Saturday saying “He broke my phone, my will is in the room, and he’s going to kill me.” The sister told authorities Salazar had called her the previous week and threatened her, the reports say.

Authorities, who reported that they saw the woman jump from the window and try to run away, say she told deputies Salazar had monitored her movements relentlessly and had physically threatened her. Deputies reported the woman was too scared and distraught to answer further questions.

Salazar was being held Monday at the Santa Fe County jail in lieu of a $2,500 unsecured bond.
