Bob Bradley named coach of Norwegian club Stabaek

January 3, 2014

OSLO, Norway (AP) — Former United States coach Bob Bradley is moving to Norway, where he will take charge of a small club that was just promoted to the top division.

The club, Stabaek, made the announcement Friday.

The 55-year-old Bradley most recently led Egypt’s national team, but his contract wasn’t renewed after the country failed to qualify for the 2014 World Cup.

Stabaek raced through the Norwegian league system in the 1990s, climbing from the fourth division to the top flight, and won its only league title in 2008.

The club, based in a suburb of Oslo, was relegated to the second division in 2012, but is returning to the top flight this year after finishing second in the lower league last season.

“You don’t get anywhere if you don’t look and set the bar as high as possible,” Bradley said in a video posted on the club’s website. “And I know that Stabaek has done that in their history. And that in recent years, when things have fallen off a little bit, it hasn’t changed the mindset of the main people in the club, and it certainly hasn’t changed the mindset of the supporters.”

Due to the cold winter, the Norwegian season runs spring-fall, unlike most of Europe.
