Police: Woman found inside department dumpster with drugs, alcohol

March 20, 2019

When Edgewood Police Department Officer Nicholas Brown stepped out of his vehicle Sunday to throw trash in a department dumpster, he found a woman inside.

Brown asked the woman — later identified as 22-year-old Soul Hardesty of Albuquerque — what she was doing; she responded “drinking a beer,” according to a criminal complaint filed against her alleging drug possession in Santa Fe County Magistrate Court.

“Since she was inside our Police Department dumpster where we throw shredded sensitive documents, I continued to talk with her,” Brown wrote in a probable cause statement in the complaint. It took a telephone call to Hardesty’s mother to confirm her legal name and that she had outstanding arrest warrants in Santa Fe County, Brown said.

A search of Hardesty turned up suspected methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia, according to the criminal complaint.

Hardesty was booked into Santa Fe County jail on drug possession and drug paraphernalia possession charges. She also had outstanding warrants in a residential burglary and trespassing case and an alleged probation violation.
