Woman finds small alligator in backyard ... in Pennsylvania

PROSPECT PARK, Pennsylvania — An alligator wandering into a backyard in Florida isn’t too newsworthy.

In Pennsylvania? That qualifies as unusual.

A woman in a Philadelphia suburb was startled by a nearly 3-foot alligator while she was checking out a turtle in a creek in her backyard, Fox 29 reports.

“I come down here every day to feed my bees and I never imagined I’d see an alligator,” Tracie Hoffecker tells Fox 29.

According to the Associated Press, Hoffecker called her cousin, a Philadelphia firefighter, who used a fishing net to catch the gator. A local rescue group took the alligator and will turn it over to an aquarium.

No surprise, police tell Fox 29 it’s likely the alligator was a pet that was illegally dumped.
