Four People Missing After Tidal Wave in Vietnam
BANGKOK, Thailand (AP) _ A tidal wave hit a coastal province in southern Vietnam, sweeping away hundreds of houses and leaving four people missing, the official Vietnam News Agency reported Friday.
Recent storms have caused considerable damage throughout Vietnam.
Several thousand people in two districts of Soc Trang province, 186 miles south of Ho Chi Minh City, were left homeless by the tidal wave, which struck early Monday morning, the agency said in a dispatch received Friday in Bangkok.
Initial reports also indicated that thousands of acres of rice, orchards, and shrimp and salt ponds suffered serious damage, the news agency said. It said irrigation systems in the area were destroyed.
