Wade out tonight...Darnold in a boot...More woes for Browns...Swanson has wrist surgery
MIAMI (AP) — Dwyane Wade will miss Miami’s game against San Antonio tonight for personal reasons. It will be the first game he has missed this season, his 16th and final in the NBA. He’s averaging 14.3 points on 45 percent shooting in nine games, all of them as a reserve. The Heat again will be without Dion Waiters and James Johnson as they recover from surgeries. The Spurs expect to have point guard Derrick White available off the bench for his season debut. White has been sidelined by a heel injury.
FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) — New York Jets rookie quarterback Sam Darnold has a boot on his right foot and isn’t practicing, leaving his status for the team’s game Sunday against Buffalo in doubt. Darnold was injured during the Jets’ 13-6 loss at Miami last Sunday but finished the game.If Darnold is unable to start, 39-year-old backup Josh McCown would take his place. McCown was the starter last season.
DAVIE, Fla. (AP) — Miami Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill has been ruled out of Sunday’s game at Green Bay because of a throwing shoulder injury. Backup Brock Osweiler (AHS’-wy-lur) will make his fifth consecutive start. Coach Adam Gase says the goal is for Tannehill to return for the Indianapolis game Nov. 25. The Dolphins have a bye next week.
BEREA, Ohio (AP) — The Cleveland Browns have lost two defensive starters. Linebacker Christian Kirksey and cornerback E.J. Gaines have been placed on injured reserve. Kirksey hurt his hamstring during Sunday’s loss to Kansas City and Gaines suffered his second concussion in three weeks. Cleveland’s defense is already stretched thin. Linebacker Joe Schobert missed the past three games with a hamstring injury, rookie cornerback Denzel Ward hurt his hip against the Chiefs and cornerback Terrance Mitchell broke his arm earlier this season.
ATLANTA (AP) — Atlanta Braves shortstop Dansby Swanson is expected to be ready for spring training following surgery on his left wrist. The Braves say Swanson had a procedure on Monday to remove a “loose body” in the wrist. The 24-year-old Swanson hit .238 with 14 home runs and 59 RBI in 136 games last season. He was left off the National League Division Series roster against the Los Angeles Dodgers after tearing a ligament in his left hand late in the season.
