Woman arrested after emaciated pit bulls were found at home
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Authorities say the discovery of four pit bulls left emaciated and suffering from worms in cages collecting waste led to a Florida woman’s arrest.
The Palm Beach Post reports 27-year-old Samantha Dwarka was arrested Saturday. She’s charged with four counts each of animal cruelty and confinement of animals without sufficient food, water or exercise.
The dogs were found in a home where Dwarka lived. Officials wrote they were inside stacked metal crates. Deputies say the dogs on the bottom could barely stand up. Records show all four dogs tested positive for hookworms and whipworms. They’re now healthy and available for adoption.
Dwarka told deputies she didn’t know who the dogs belonged to. Her attorney told the newspaper she would’ve reached out to help if she knew they weren’t receiving proper care.
