Nebraska State Patrol taking part in holiday “You Drink and Drive, You Lose Campaign”
LINCOLN - The Nebraska State Patrol is taking part in a nationwide “You Drink and Drive, You Lose” holiday campaign to remove drunk drivers from the road.
The State Patrol’s portion of the enforcement effort is made possible thanks in part to a grant for $25,000 from the Nebraska Department of Transportation Highway Safety Office.
Public Relations Director Cody Thomas says it’s very important that the State Patrol takes part in not only this campaign, but other ones throughout the year.
“Right now, one third of traffic fatalities in Nebraska every year involve drunk driving. That’s an astronomical number when you compare to the number of people that may actually be drunk driving. You’re more likely to be involved in a fatality crash if there’s a drunk driver involved than potentially any other situation.”
Thomas says during a similar enforcement last year troopers arrested 67 impaired drivers and another 28 for reckless driving.
If you see a reckless, impaired, or dangerous driver you’re encouraged to report it to the State Patrol by calling *55.
