OLIVIA NEWTON-JOHN DENIES SHE’S NEAR DEATH

UNDATED (AP) — Olivia Newton-John not only is alive and well, but she’s showing her face to prove it. Newton-John has been battling cancer for the third time. Recent tabloid reports said she was weeks from death. Newton-John posted a video online in which she says with a laugh, “The rumors of my death have been greatly exaggerated, to quote a very famous quote.” She says she’s “doing great” and thanks fans for their support.

MICKEY HART, TONY BENNETT VISIT CAPITOL HILL

WASHINGTON (AP) — Grateful Dead drummer Mickey Hart tweets he is “proud of our democracy and our diversity.” He got to see democracy in action firsthand yesterday. Hart and Tony Bennett were on Capitol Hill as guests of California Representative Nancy Pelosi as she was sworn in as Speaker of the House.

MIKE LOVE, NEIL SEDAKA MOURN DEATH OF DARYL DRAGON

UNDATED (AP) — Mike Love of The Beach Boys calls Daryl Dragon of The Captain and Tennille “the ultimate keyboard player” and “an unassuming genius.” Love writes online that the Beach Boys were blessed to have him in their band in the early 1970s. Dragon died Wednesday at the age of 76. Love is the one who gave Dragon the nickname “The Captain” for the hats he wore. Neil Sedaka calls Dragon “a great musician, keyboard player and friend for over 40 years.” The Captain and Tennille’s version of Sedaka’s song “Love Will Keep Us Together” was a number-one hit and won the Record of the Year Grammy in 1976. Sedaka says Dragon made that song his own “with the magic of his playing and her incredible voice.”

BEYONCE AND JAY Z VIDEO HELPS BOOST VISITORS TO THE LOUVRE

PARIS (AP) — The Louvre (LOOV) in Paris had a record number of visitors in the past year, and it gives partial credit to Beyonce and Jay Z. The Louvre received 10.2 million visitors in 2018. Museum officials say in a statement the museum sparked a lot of interest because that’s where Beyonce and Jay Z shot the video for their song with a profane title that starts with the word “Ape.” Officials say an exhibit on the French master Delacroix (del-ah-KWAH’) and the recovery of tourism in France also helped boost visits.

INGRID MICHAELSON WILL WRITE MUSIC FOR STAGE PRODUCTION OF “THE NOTEBOOK”

NEW YORK (AP) — Ingrid Michaelson says when she took a meeting to discuss her involvement in a musical stage version of the film “The Notebook,” she had to excuse herself to go cry in the bathroom. Michaelson says she loves the movie so much that the idea of turning it into a musical overwhelmed her. She admits she started writing for the musical before she even got the job. Michaelson will team with “This Is Us” supervising producer Bekah Brunstetter to bring the production to the stage. Nicholas Sparks, who wrote the book that became the movie, has given his approval.

STREAMS OF “THE LAST SONG” JUMP AFTER MILEY CYRUS’ WEDDING

UNDATED (AP) — After last week’s apparent wedding of Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth, a lot of people went looking for that moment when they started falling for each other. Amazon Prime Video reports in the two days after news broke of the wedding, streams of the film “The Last Song” spiked 2000 percent. Cyrus and Hemsworth met while filming that movie.

ARIANA GRANDE MAKES HISTORIC MARK ON COACHELLA

LOS ANGELES (AP) — At 25 years old, Ariana Grande (GRAHN’-day) will be the youngest act to headline Coachella. She’s also only the fourth woman to be named a headliner. Childish Gambino and Tame Impala are the other headliners. Other acts on the bill include Janelle Monae, The 1975, Solange, Weezer, Khalid (kah-LEED’) and Bad Bunny. Coachella is set for the second and third weekends in April in Indio, California.

LIL WAYNE JOINS HALFTIME SHOW FOR COLLEGE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Lil Wayne will join Imagine Dragons for the halftime show for the College Football National Championship Game on Monday. The halftime show will be at Treasure Island in San Francisco Bay. Clemson takes on Alabama at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California. Andy Grammer will sing the national anthem before the game.

POLICE: ALL MATERIALS RELATED TO LAS VEGAS SHOOTINGS HAVE BEEN RELEASED

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Police in Las Vegas say they have released all the materials related to the Route 91 Harvest Festival shootings from October 2017. The department says it has released video from nearly 1,200 officer body-worn cameras, more than a thousand audio clips of 911 calls, video from streetscape, rooftop and helicopters, and about 2,100 pages of officer reports, witness statements and dispatch logs. The department says after 34 releases of material since May, officials believe they have complied with a court order stemming from a public records lawsuit. Fifty-eight people died and 869 were wounded or injured by a gunman shooting from a hotel into the concert crowd. The FBI is expected to soon release a behavioral analysis of the shooter.

ASAP BARI FINED

LONDON (AP) — One of the founders of the rap collective ASAP Mob has been fined for sexual assault. Jabari Shelton, known as ASAP Bari, was fined $5,000 in a London court yesterday after he pleaded guilty to sexual assault. He’s also been ordered to pay $3,100 to the victim. A video shown in court showed Shelton pulling the covers off a naked woman in bed, spanking her and demanding a sex act. The woman told him to stop. It’s unclear who filmed the video. Shelton’s lawyer says the footage was leaked by someone who wanted to harm Shelton.

BRIDGE SCHOOL CO-FOUNDER PEGI YOUNG DIES

NEW YORK (AP) — Neil Young’s ex-wife and partner in founding the Bridge School has died. Pegi Young died of cancer on Tuesday at the age of 66, according to a spokeswoman. Details were not given. Pegi Young came up with the idea for a school for children with speech and physical impairments after she and her husband struggled to educate their son Ben, who was born with cerebral palsy. The Bridge School benefit concerts drew top talent, including Bruce Springsteen, David Bowie and Tom Petty. The Youngs divorced in 2014 after 36 years of marriage. Pegi Young was a musician in her own right and did solo work as well as perform with Neil Young.
