Man dies after suffering seizure at Wake jail
The Wake County Sheriff’s Office said Monday that it is investigating the death of man who suffered seizures in a holding cell Sunday night.
David Walton, 35, had a seizure at about 10 p.m. while being processed on a Raleigh police charge of leaving the scene of a hit-and-run, authorities said.
Detention center medical staff worked on Walton until first responders could arrive and take him to WakeMed. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.
“The Wake County Sheriff’s Office sends our condolences to the family of Mr. Walton. We hope to find out exactly the cause of his untimely death,” Sheriff Gerald Baker said in a statement.
The state Medical Examiner’s Office will make a final determination on the cause of death.
