No Trix

October 7, 2018

General Mills announced in a press release on Monday that Trix is bringing back the (somewhat) classic fruit shaped-cereal enjoyed by a generation of children who grew up in the early to mid-1990s.

In 2017, after color-loving fans weighed in, Trix brought back the cereal’s bright, artificial colors after a two-year absence. Turns out, true Trix fans didn’t want to eat little cereal balls colored with turmeric, radishes and purple carrots. This fall, fans of the cereal can enjoy the return of fruit shapes (in their original, brighter colors) like “Raspberry red, Lemony Lemon, Orangey orange, Wildberry blue, Grapity purple and watermelon,” according to the release.

The change back to fruit shapes, which originally debuted in 1991 and lasted until 2006, comes after a huge demand by Trix lovers for a return that included “more than 20,000 requests,″ according to the company. When the cereal first debuted in 1950s, it actually came in ball shapes (not fruit shapes) so the change isn’t actually a full reversion to its original form.
