Detroit man arrested in motorist’s fatal beating after crash
DETROIT (AP) — A 23-year-old Detroit man has been arrested in the fatal beating of another man following a car crash on the city’s west side.
The Wayne County prosecutor’s office says Lawrence Davis was taken into custody Tuesday and is expected to be arraigned Wednesday on an open murder charge.
Detroit police had been seeking Davis after 24-year-old Tyler Wingate, of Berkley, was slain July 22. After the early morning crash, Wingate and a passenger in his vehicle walked to a nearby gas station parking lot where Wingate was attacked.
Prosecutors have said Wingate was struck in the head, then struck and kicked while on the ground. Police found him unresponsive in the parking lot. He later was pronounced dead at a hospital.
