7 Poles on trial over fight with Mexican cadets
WARSAW, Poland (AP) — A court says seven Polish men involved in a beach fight with Mexican naval cadets have gone on trial, and could face up to three years in prison if convicted.
Two of the suspects appearing in the regional court in the Baltic city of Gdynia on Monday have pleaded guilty. Two cadets and a Pole were injured in the August fight.
Mexico’s Foreign Relations Department said in August that some 300 Poles attacked 57 Mexican naval cadets, who were on a training voyage aboard a sailing vessel docked in Gdynia. Polish authorities said there were dozens of attackers.
Authorities used footage from a security camera that had filmed the fight in a Gdynia beech to identify the suspects.
