Erna Vossekuil, 94, Waupun, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2018, at Prairie Ridge Assisted Living in Waupun.
Erna was born April 23, 1924, in Fairwater, the daughter of Henry and Leona Luther Vande Slunt. On Oct. 25, 1945, she married Bernard Vossekuil at Bethel Reformed Church in Brandon. During Erna’s younger years she worked at National Rivet, Ideal Shoe Factory, and Teeples Shoe Factory, all in Waupun. Following her marriage to Bernard, they farmed in the town of Chester and moved to Waupun in 1987. Erna was a member of Grace United Reformed Church in Waupun. Erna’s hobbies were sewing and quilting for the grandchildren.
Erna is survived by her husband, Bernard Vossekuil; their children, Barbara (Berwyn) Westra of Beaver Dam, Elayne (Wilbur) Van Buren of Waupun, Kathleen (Randall) Smedema of Cambria, Jeffrey (Diane) Vossekuil of Muscoda; 13 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; one brother, Leroy (Janet) Vande Slunt of Waupun; two sisters, Adeline (Marvin) Jahns of Brandon, and Marge Vande Streek of Waupun; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Harriet Westra and Alice Gilbertson; three brothers, Delmar Vande Slunt, Howard Vande Slunt, and Donald Vande Slunt.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, Sept. 22, at 10:30 a.m. at First Christian Reformed Church in Waupun with Alvin Venhuizen officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens in the town of Trenton. Friends and relatives of Erna Vossekuil may call on the family Saturday at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of service.
