Pregnant Woman Hurt By Bomb Loses Second Twin
JOHANNESBURG, South Africa (AP) _ A day-old twin girl, delivered prematurely after her mother was injured in a bomb blast, died today. The other twin was stillborn.
The 20-year-old mother, Michelle Ebrahim, was reported in serious condition at Johannesburg Hospital with burns. The babies were delivered by Caesarian section seven weeks prematurely.
Mrs. Ebrahim, her husband, and their 2-year-old daughter were among 10 people injured Wednesday when a limpet mine exploded at a video game arcade in downtown Johannesburg.
There have been more than 20 bombings in South Africa this year, killing eight people and injuring 59.
The government has blamed the attacks on the outlawed African National Congress guerrilla movement. The ANC has not claimed responsibility for specific attacks in recent months but has said it seeks to intensify its guerrilla operations.
