History rolls through Dixon

May 10, 2019

A blast from the past rolled into Dixon Thursday morning when a 1964 Ford Galaxie 500, 1951 Chevrolet Business Coupe and several other classic American cars were driven through the area. The cars belong to members of the Cedar Rapids Antique Auto Club of America, who were passing through during a spring tour. For the club’s members, the joy is keeping the cars running, waving at other motorists, meeting new people and exploring history. The threat of rain doesn’t keep them inside, because these owners know cars are meant to be driven. At every stop, they take care to wipe noticeable dirt and standing water from the cars. The club stopped at several sites throughout the Sauk Valley, including the Ronald Reagan Boyhood Home, Barnacopia, the John Deere Home, Northwest Territory Historic Center and Dixon’s Veterans Memorial Park. The Antique Auto Club of America is a national organization with local chapters throughout the country. Visit aaca.org to learn more about the club.
