Police: Winner of $50,000 lottery stabbed to death in home

June 13, 2018

NEW YORK (AP) — Officials say a 73-year-old New York City man who won a $50,000 lottery prize six months ago was found stabbed to death in his own home.

Police say Owen Dillard was found stabbed several times in the neck at the apartment he shared with his fiancee in the Bronx’s Mott Haven neighborhood on Monday night. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say there are no signs of someone forcing their way into the apartment.

Neighbor Michael Milliner says Dillard was beloved by the neighborhood. A nephew of Dillard tells WABC-TV that the man was terminally ill and wanted to just live the remaining months of his life comfortably.

Police have not made any arrests and the investigation is ongoing.
