2 Springfield police officers injured in crash
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) — Springfield police say two officers were injured when they were involved in a crash following the pursuit of a van driven by suicidal man with a gun.
The officers were treated at Baystate Medical Center after the crash just after midnight Tuesday and released. The nature of the injuries was not disclosed.
The officers were pursuing the van after receiving a “be on the lookout” warning from police in Suffield, Connecticut.
The Springfield officers saw the van and attempted to pull it over, but it took off and crashed into a traffic barrier where at the Interstate 91/Route 5 split. The police cruised struck the van, which had rotated into the cruiser’s path. The van driver also sustained minor injuries.
No names were released.
