New Hampshire 42, Rhode Island 35
DURHAM, N.H. (AP) _ Matt Griffin completed 15 of 25 passes for 260 yards and three touchdowns as New Hampshire beat Rhode Island 42-35 Saturday in the Yankee Conference.
With the score tied at 35, New Hampshire (8-2, 6-1) capitalized on a fumble that allowed a final scoring drive capped by Griffin’s game-winning 1-yard dive into the end zone.
Barry Bourassa ran for two touchdowns and added a 14-yard TD catch for the Wildcats. He tied a school record of 42 rushing attempts while tying his personal best of 199 rushing yards.
New Hampshire outgained Rhode Island 516 yards to 284. Terry Squitieri completed 13 of 27 passes for 191 yards and two interceptions for Rhode Island (5-5, 2-5).
The Wildcats led by two touchdowns before Rhode Island’s defense rallied for two third-quarter touchdowns. Greg Hoffman picked up a fumble scored from 12 yards out and Peter Doremus scored on a 40-yard interception return.
