Mustangs take 74-32 home win over Mountain View
NEEDLES — The Mustangs shook off a non-conference loss to Parker the night before to post a 74-32 NIAA 2A South League win over Mountain View Christian Dec. 18 in The Corral.
Needles led all the way: up 26-7 after the first quarter, 55-19 at the half, 62-32 after three and held Mountain View scoreless while posting a dozen in the final stanza.
Needles’ press began at the tipoff and continued pretty much the entire first quarter. They’d continue to press at various times throughout the game, forcing turnovers and driving to the bucket. The strategy yielded 23 two-point field goals with seven three-pointers icing the cake. The boys went seven for 12 from the free throw line.
Trevyn Diaz and Dawsen Yeager led the scoring with 16 each. Nathan Rodriguez added 13, Tyler Thomas 12 and Semaj Howell 11.
Zack Wood scored 10 for Mountain View, Alex Diaz and Rason McLennon added eight each with McLennon sinking four for five from the charity stripe. Altogether Mountain View went to the line 19 times, making nine; scored seven deuces and three treys.
Needles hosts Lincoln County on Thursday, Dec. 20. The girls JV is scheduled to tip off at 3, boys JV at 4:30, girls varsity at 6 and boys varsity at 7:30 against their powerful NIAA rivals.
