District Attorney Wounded In Shooting Dies
ROCHESTER, Minn. (AP) _ A former Buffalo County, Wis., district attorney who slipped into a coma after he was shot in the back last month died Monday.
Roger Hartman, 56, died at 12:38 p.m. at St. Marys Hospital, said a hospital spokeswoman who declined to give her name.
His brother-in-law, Todd Brecht, 26, of Owen, Wis., has been charged with attempted first-degree murder in the shooting. County officials had indicated that they would amend the charge against Brecht to first-degree murder if Hartman died.
An autopsy will be performed Tuesday, said Olmsted County Coroner Paul Belau.
Hartman was hospitalized Oct. 17 after being shot at his home in Alma, Wis. He slipped into a coma Oct. 29.
On Nov. 1, Hartman’s wife, Molly, submitted her husband’s resignation as Buffalo County district attorney.
