Westford Earns Berth; Lowell Nips Chelmsford

CHALK TALK: Groton-Dunstable Regional varsity girls basketball coach Mark Hennelly has the full attention of the Groton fifth-grade girls travel basketball team, which was invited to G-D's game with Algonquin. The girls attended Hennelly's pre-game talk, joined the players on court for the National Anthem and sat on the bench throughout. Brooke Pillsbury finished with 15 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists as the Westford Academy girls basketball team clinched a state tournament berth with a 57-35 victory over DCL rival Acton-Boxboro.

Elsewhere, Lowell rallied past Chelmsford High, 42-39, in an MVC cross-over game.

Ellie Nolan notched 10 points and 2 steals for the Grey Ghosts, who improved their record to 10-2 overall and 4-1 in DCL Large.

Ally Giovino tallied 5 points, 4 assists and 4 steals for Westford.

Erin Mcosker led the way on offense for A-B with 16 points.

Sara Meehan scored 9 points, including the game-winning trey with 9 seconds remaining, as Lowell overcame a 15 point third quarter deficit on the road while rallying past Chelmsford.

Niky Yrrizarry scored 13 points, and Micheala Martinez had 12 points and 14 rebounds for the Red Raiders (6-8).

For Chelmsford (7-6), Katelyn Disivio tallied 12 points and 9 rebounds, while Kat Slattery notched 3 points, 11 rebounds and 3 steals.

Laconia held on to defeat Pelham in a New Hampshire Division 2 game.

Olivia Gagnon paced the Pythons offense with 15 points.
