Police video shows man throw person off Florida bridge

DAYTONA BEACH, Florida — A police officer’s body camera recorded a man appearing to throw a person off of a bridge into water 30 feet below during a dispute.

The officer drove up just as the incident occurred on Sunday afternoon on the Main Street Bridge over the Halifax River, WFTV Channel 9 reports.

Derrick Goodin, 21, was arrested and is being held without bond on aggravated battery charges, according to the Associated Press.

Police say Goodin got into an argument with a woman about money and threw her bicycle off the bridge.

Another man, Anthony Mascaro, attempted to intervene and Goodin then threw him off the bridge, reports say.

Mascaro suffered only a gash near his right eye and declined to press charges. He swam to a nearby pylon and was rescued by a person in a rowboat.

Police filed charges against Goodin. Officials say Mascaro was fortunate not to have been badly injured because there are multiple pylons and maintenance catwalks under the bridge.
