Former HHS wrestler clinches spot in DII wrestling tournament

HUNTINGTON - Former Huntington High wrestling state champion Logan Grass is contending for a championship in NCAA Division II.

Grass, a junior at Mercyhurst University in Erie, Pennsylvania, clinched a third consecutive NCAA trip with an automatic bid.

Last weekend in the NCAA Super Region One tournament hosted by Mercyhurst, the 165-pound Grass advanced to the finals. He pinned Shippensburg’s Abner Thompson in 3:28 and took an 8-0 major decision over Pittsburgh-Johnstown’s Devin Austin before falling to Shane Ruhnke of Millersville, 4-2.

NCAA tournament brackets will be announced Friday for the championships March 8-9 at Cleveland State.
