Suspicious fire under investigation
Officials are investigating the cause of a house fire that was reported early Friday morning.
Beatrice Fire and Rescue responded to the fire at 1532 Ella Street just before 3 a.m. to find much of the home in flames, according to shift captain Corey Lieneman.
“On arrival we had flames showing from the northeast corner of the home,” he said. “We got the fire knocked down and then made an interior attack on it to get the hot spots.”
Lieneman said the home was being renovated and nobody was living there at the time of the fire.
The home is believed to be a total loss with an estimated $30,000 in damage, though firefighters were able to contain the blaze.
“The northeast corner was going pretty good and there’s pretty significant fire and smoke damage,” Lieneman said. “We got a pretty quick knockdown on it from the exterior on it. There was a home to the east of it, so that was a priority to make sure we protected it and we are able to do that.”
Firefighters were in the scene until around 8 a.m. Friday.
Chief Brain Daake said fire is being considered suspicious and is under investigation.
