Bob Barker Recovering After Surgery
WASHINGTON (AP) _ An operation on game show host Bob Barker ``went very well,″ says his surgeon.
Barker underwent surgery Monday to relieve a blocked artery. He will probably remain hospitalized through the end of the week, said his doctor, neurosurgeon Anthony Caputy of George Washington University Hospital.
Barker, 75, was admitted to the hospital Thursday after complaining of clumsiness in his right hand. Tests revealed his left carotid artery was 85 percent blocked, a condition his doctors said is common in people his age.
Barker underwent a procedure in which the artery is opened and the blockage cleared. His doctors said 40,000 people have the procedure each year.
A longtime animal rights activist, Barker was in Washington to lobby for a bill that would ban circuses from using elephants.
His illness is not expected to interfere with production of ``The Price Is Right.″ Barker been host of the program since 1972. A spokesman said the show is taped well in advance.
