Ben Carson plans to leave HUD at the end of first term, eyes private sector
Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson said Monday he is considering leaving his position at the end of President Trump’s first term.
In an interview on Newsmax TV, Mr. Carson said that he would “certainly finish out this term” and when asked if he’d do a second term, he said he’d like to leave the Trump administration.
“I would be interested in returning to the private sector, because I think you have just as much influence maybe more there,” he said.
Mr. Carson also discussed his relationship with the president, saying that Michael Cohen’s claim that Mr. Trump is a “racist” is the president’s former personal attorney trying to be accepted by Democrats.
“I think Cohen is trying to ingratiate himself to the people who hate Trump,” Mr. Carson said. “I’ve never seen anything that even remotely would remind me of racists, and believe me, I recognize a racist when I see them.”
The HUD secretary has come under fire for frivolous spending and inaction in preventing housing discrimination.
