FAR HILLS, N.J. (AP) _ Barbara McIntire, a two-time women’s amateur champion and a member of six U.S. Curtis Cup teams, will be the captain on the 1998 U.S. Curtis Cup team.
McIntire, 63, will lead a team of eight amateurs against a squad from Great Britain and Ireland at the Minikahda Club in Minneapolis, Minn., Aug. 1-2.
``I’m very happy and surprised to be named again,″ said McIntire, referring to the 1976 squad that she also led as captain. ``It’s been 22 years since I was captain, and I didn’t expect that kind of honor to happen again.″
The U.S. team will be selected by the USGA Women’s Committee during the second week of June. The Ladies Golf Union will select the team from Great Britain and Ireland in June as well.
