HHS sophomore Goodson steps up, wins discus state title again
CHARLESTON - Less than one month ago, Ravyn Goodson was topping out at 95 feet in the discus throw.
The defending Class AAA state champion from Huntington High had lost her form and confidence.
On Saturday, the Highlanders’ sophomore won her second consecutive Class AAA state title, throwing a personal-best 118-7 to beat runner-up Madison Miller of Woodrow Wilson in the 105th West Virginia track and field state meet at the University of Charleston Stadium. Miller’s heave was 114-10, 1 inch longer than Goodson’s winning throw in 2018.
“I really wanted to win,” Goodson said. “The girl from Woodrow threw 118 in regionals, so I knew I had to come up big or go home.”
