HUNTINGTON — Marshall University men’s soccer plays host to Oakland University at 7 p.m. Monday and is hoping to begin the season 2-0-0.
The Thundering Herd and Golden Grizzlies meet on Hoops Family Field at Veterans Memorial Soccer Complex. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for youth from age 3 to 12.
Marshall won its season opener Friday against Duquesne University, 1-0. Jonas Westmeyer scored the goal on a Kelan Swales assist in the third minute. Goalkeeper Paulo Pita made a save on Duquesne’s only shot on goal.
“The lads played well against Duquesne on Friday,” Marshall head coach Chris Grassie said in a release. “For stretches in both halves, we moved the ball extremely well, and created some great scoring opportunities that we didn’t capitalize on. Defensively, we limited them to only one real chance.”
Oakland is a Horizon League member from Rochester, Michigan. The Golden Grizzlies played a 1-1 draw with Western Illinois to open the season. Napoleon Outlaw III scored on a rebound to put the match in overtime.
